It is very well known that scholarships have been a
tradition at SSN; the history of Dr. Shiv Nadar's brain
child gives us a panorama of the awards given to the
students. In the year 2006, at yet another anniversary
of the scholarship function, Mr. Prerit Mittal, an
alumnus of SSN contributed Rs. 25,000 to the
prosperous scholarship funds, thus giving birth to the
alumni scholarships initiative.
The advent of the alumni scholarship also gave rise to
the fully operational unit of alumni corpus. The
mission for this corpus is to aid the students from
rural background, students with financial setbacks, or
physically challenged students. Contributions to the
funds started pouring in from the alumni all over the
world, primarily from India and US. The recipients of
the awards are decided by an alumni core committee ,
solely based on the above criteria; after reviewing
the shortlisted student profiles sent by the college, the
committee selects the most deserving students.
In the year 2009, the number of scholarships awarded
rose up to nine, continuing the trend of steady
increase every year with contributions from over 90
alumni. In the following year, the number increased
to 13 with a significant contribution of Rs. 50,000
from Ms. Mamta Bolaki. The generous contribution
of Rs.1 lakh by Mr. Senthilnathan for Chellammal
Agro Engineering Project Award deserves a special
mention.
The backing given by these scholarships inspired
students to set aside their setbacks and perform well
in their academics. We are proud to recognize these
deserving students every year and motivate them to
excel further with these scholarships. The strength of
the scholarship lies in the generosity of alumni. Being
an alumnus, your contribution could help yet another
student to realize his/her dreams. If you would like to
donate for the scholarship, you may please contact
Ms. Asha (Alumni Officer) or Ms. Mahaneeya
(Chairman) or Lakshmi (Vice Chairman) from
Philanthropy executive committee.
